Karditsa

The prefecture of Karditsa with its mountainous landscape alternating with the fertile valleys composes the beauty of this region covers an area of 2576 square kilometres. Karditsa is a good destination for year-round vacations, fishing, water sports, walking, climbing, skiing and hunting. Its main produce is cotton and other agricultural produce.

History

Archaeological digs have exposed many early settlements, cities and fortifications some of them dating from prehistoric times. Like many other regions in Greece, Karditsa has also experienced the might of foreign armies on its soil. The area has an excess of Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments: churches, monasteries, many of which are in good condition.
