Pick of the day #3

Theogefiro in Ioannina is clearly an astonishing place. The name of the bridge implies that it was made by God himself. The bridge is 100% natural and it has been characterized as a geological phenomenon. The bridge is almost 45 meters long, 3-4 meters wide and 20 meters above the water level. The crystal clear waters of Kalamas river flow underneath the bridge.

Nature at its best for sure!

And don't forget, Greece is not only about beautiful islands and Beaches. There are many other places you can visit around the country, depending on your preferences.

Pick of the day #2

The place to be for today is Balos beach in Crete. It is situated all the way in the north-west part of Crete, close to Chania. This place has been named as the Caribbean part of Greece.

The beach is accessible by car or by boat (from Kissamos). Spend your day in balos and enjoy the traditional Greek food in the only taverna of the beach.

Breath taking.

Sirtaki

Sirtaki or Syrtaki is a popular Greek dance known from the film Zorba the Greek.

Tourists that visit Greece seem to favor this dance. The guinness world record for sirtaki dancers in a row is held in Cyprus, where 268 members danced together as a long chain in the Ayia Napa beach. Sirtaki makes the world dance instantly. Andre Rieu honored Zorba the Greek and Mikis Theothorakis in one of his performances and see the result:

Let's all dance together!

Greece-Heaven

Sometimes these two words have the same meaning if you know your destination. Greece offers endless beauty and has been characterized by many as the heaven on Earth. A wonderful video depicting some beautiful places, mostly islands. Lefkada, Antipaxos, Santorini, Folegandros, Sikinos and Ios are some islands featured.

Epidaurus

Epidaurus was an ancient Greece city at the Saronic gulf. The city is well known for its theatre:

Designed by Polykleitos in the 4th century BC, it still delights for its symmetry and beauty. Its capacity is 15000 people with 55 rows. Exceptional design for that period, offering great acoustics for every spectator. The theatre is still in use for performances.

This is Greece

The video contains helicopter shots and simply shows the beauty of Greece. To name just a few: Olympos mountain, Acropolis, High Bridge of Chalkis, Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, Mykonos, Caldera in Santorini, Paros, Philippi, Meteora, Mycenae, Ancient theatre of Epidaurus, Ancient stadium of Olympia, shipwreck in Zakynthos and Delphi are some places featured. Great work done by the producers. Enjoy and explore Greece within 15 minutes.

Ithaca

Ithaca is a poem by Cavafys, written in 1910 that has made Greece famous all around the world. Sean Connery recites the poem with his characteristic voice. Pay attention to the poem lyrics.

When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,
pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them:
You will never find such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your spirit and your body.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not set them up before you.

Pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many, when,
with such pleasure, with such joy
you will enter ports seen for the first time;
stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
and sensual perfumes of all kinds,
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
visit many Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from scholars.

Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.

Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her you would have never set out on the road.
She has nothing more to give you.

And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Wise as you have become, with so much experience,
you must already have understood what Ithacas mean.

We are Hellenes and we are proud of it

This is exactly how i feel sometimes.. It is important to remind the world about our contribution, as Greeks, to the humanity. Ideas and concepts that affect the society nowadays were first generated by the Greeks in ancient times. To name just a few, democracy, philosophy and drama (in the sense of theatre, performances and movies) are part of our contribution. Even the Olympic games first took place in Athens for many years.

Watch a Greek actress, Katerina Moutsatsou, how tries to promote Greece in such a way that no one else ever done before:

Interesting points are made, especially about tourism, one of the main income sources for Greece. Tourism is averaging 15-18% of the national GDP, but has the potential to increase even more.

The world is pre-occupied against us and her second video attempt shows the reason why they shouldn't be.

We are Hellenes and we will always be proud of that!

THAT's Greece vs THAT's NOT Greece

True facts about Greece presented in a humorous way. This video was first presented in the "British Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (BHCC) annual London Conference" in an attempt to restore the Greek reputation. It is funny when Greeks are considered lazy, but the facts show that Greeks average more working hours than the Germans.

Enjoy the video and make up your own conclusions.
